The unalloyed structural steel with the designation S235JR is widely used in industry and trade and has stood the test of time. It offers high strength with excellent weldability and can be easily machined by drilling, bending or grinding.
As this steel does not contain any expensive alloy components, it does not have any corrosion protection, but is considerably cheaper. Furthermore, the steel is produced in extremely large quantities due to its popularity, which also has a positive effect on the price.
The lack of corrosion protection can easily be compensated for by painting.
