FAQs - Frequently asked questions

How much does steel cost?

As metal is traded worldwide, steel prices are subject to constant fluctuations and vary depending on quality, profile shape and market conditions. The distribution of smaller quantities incurs additional costs that affect the sales price. It is therefore impossible to determine a universally valid price. Instead, you are welcome to browse through our online store! Here you will find daily updated prices for the most common steel profiles!

Which steel is used for pipes?

Which steel is used for the production of pipes or other profiles depends heavily on the application. For example, a different material is used for the production of pipelines than for structural pipes. In our $#k:170:assortment#$ you will find pipes made of S235JR structural steel and 1.4301 stainless steel.

What kind of steel is S235?

S235JR is an unalloyed structural steel and therefore has no corrosion protection. Instead, the structural steel impresses with its good formability and first-class welding properties. Thanks to its positive properties, this steel is one of the most widely used structural steels and is very popular in trade and industry.

How high is the tensile strength of steel?

There is no general answer to this question, as the tensile strength varies depending on the steel grade and the thickness of the product also has an influence on the value. However, below you will find the tensile strength of the steels in our product range:

  • S235JR: approx. 290 N/mm² to 510 N/mm²
  • 1.4301: approx. 500 N/mm² to 700 N/mm²
  • 1.4401: approx. 500 N/mm² to 700 N/mm²

What is the yield strength of steel?

The yield strength depends on the type of steel and is determined by the alloy components and the product thickness, among other things. It is therefore not possible to make a general statement. However, it should be noted that the yield strength can be found in the short name of structural steel. For example, structural steel S235JR has a yield strength of up to 235 N/mm².

What is sectional steel?

Sectional steel is the collective term for steel products with certain cross-sectional shapes. Steel sections are mainly used in the construction industry, in mechanical engineering and in steel construction. Here are the most common sections with application examples:

  • I-beams (e.g. IPE, HEA, HEB, HEM): load-bearing structures, bridge construction
  • U-profiles: facade construction, mechanical engineering, real estate
  • L-profiles: frame constructions, staircase construction
  • T-profiles: frame construction, facades
  • Round tubes: railing construction, pipeline construction
  • Square tubes: railing construction, furniture construction
  • Rectangular tubes: mechanical engineering, hall construction

As a rule, the names contain a clear reference to the cross-sectional shape of the profile.

What are semi-finished products?

Semi-finished products are partially finished metal products in standardized shapes that are used as raw material for further processing in industry and trade. In addition to the various steel profiles and pipes, sheet metal can also be referred to as semi-finished products.
